18th April 2015 – Camp Verde to Grand Canyon

It’s a beautiful morning, blue sky not a cloud in sight as we head up the motorway to Grand Canyon, 143 Miles away.ÿ After a short drive we take an exit towards Sedona and the scenery changes to rugged red eroded mountains, they are just beautiful. We drive through a canyon towards Flagstaff on a pine tree lined gently winding road, it’s great to be on such a good road without pot holes. We travel briefly on part of Route 66.We stop for morning coffee at The Late Train Coffee stop.We continue our drive through the National Parks, on the look out for elk and bears, but they elude us. We stop to look at an old gas station that has beautiful old pumps and a nice collections old hot rods.We stop at Bedrock City for a photo shoot with Fred Flintstone. Gotta hand it to the Americans they can certainly create a tourist attraction! On arriving at the visitor centre at the Grand Canyon we walk along the rim, soaking up the magnificent views and looking out for elk. We then walk down the Bright Angel trail into the canyon for a while before turning around and coming back up.
