17th April 2015 – Douglas to Camp Verde

At this stage we don’t have confirmation for the insurance of our cars in the U.S. so we are reluctant to drive very far. We leave our motel and drive around the corner to a Denny’s for an American breakfast. We go for the seniors scrambled egg in the belief that it will be smaller than a regular breakfast, wrong! We eat it anyway, then line up the cars out the front for our first group photo in U.S.A.While we are eating breakfast we receive confirmation that our insurance has been issued so we are good to get on the road, driving out of town on the Pan American Ave.Today we are driving 337 kilometers to Phoenix where we are having lunch with members of the Phoenix MG Car Club.ÿ We drive through the Arizona desert passing a copper mine in Bisbee and down into the Tombstone Canyon and through Tombstone. We continue through Tucson on the motorway which has a maximum speed limit of 75mph, which is quite fast for our little cars and most cars are flying past us as we sit on about 70mph. We are passed by some fantastic vehicles such as Corvettes, Mustangs, Dodge Viper & monster pick ups. We continue on to Phoenix which is a large city of about 6.5 million people. At one stage we go under a motorway junction with 3 roadways above us, it looks fantastic. We have a very pleasant lunch with the Phoenix MG car club people, it is very kind of Danny & Barbara to open up their home to us & feed us, their driveway is full of MG’s and they make us feel so welcome.ÿ We also say farewell to Casper as they are heading to Los Angeles and Laurel is heading home tomorrow, we will miss them all. We leave Phoenix with 85 miles to drive to our overnight stop at Camp Verde. Tonight we go to a casino that is owned by the Apache nation for an all you can eat buffet, which is incredibly good value. ÿ
