This morning is bright and sunny after last nights rain as we start our drive of about 250 miles to Yellowstone National Park in search of Yogi Bear. After about 30 miles we drive from Utah into Idaho, potato country. We drive past lovely green fields and rolling hills with the snow capped mountains in the distance. We start to climb and it gets cooler and then we see snow on the ground so we stop for a snow ball fight. When we arrive at West Yellowstone where we are staying which is just outside the park, it is snowing lightly. We are met here by Lennox & Mei from Vancouver who have driven down just so they can drive back with us.ÿ It is lovely to have them join us. After a nice hot bowl of soup for lunch, we go to the visitor centre and buy our pass and go straight into the National Park. The first animals we see are elk, then bison, which are real big boys. The elk haven’t grown their antlers yet but we can see the stumps where they’ll sprout from. The park is on an active volcano and several miles down under the surface is a magma lake.ÿ There are areas of the park that have hot water springs and geysers, even the surrounding ground is warm to touch.ÿ Boiling hot water bubbles up in the middle of a pool, and washes down into the river.Quite a bit of the park is closed due to the snow so we make our way to Old Faithful the large geyser that goes off regularly. We are only here for 15 minutes and theÿgeyser starts to spout boiling water before it really goes off spouting boiling water about 90 foot into the air, with steam blowing everywhere in the cold air.On our way to our hotel we come across a herd of bison in the middle of the road and they’re not too happy about being moved over so we can pass. ÿ
