We leave our hotel this morning for a half day tour of Bogota. We start with a visit to the Gold Museum which is fabulous. This museum houses gold & stone artifacts that have been found in archaeological sites all over Colombia. There are some beautiful pieces with some of the articles that were worn being displayed on a shadow of a human figure, so we can see exactly how they would’ve looked. The doors to the floor displays are impressive and resemble a vault door. While we are in the museum it starts to rain heavily and we don’t have our rain coats so we don’t do the walking tour of the old city unfortunately. Next we visit the Botero Museum which is in a lovely colonial home. It not only has sculptures and paintings by Fernando Botero but also by other artists such as Picasso, Renoir & Monet etc.ÿ Botero’s style puts a smile on your face each time you look at a piece. In the afternoon some of the me. work on their cars while the others go to visit an impressive car collection. The girls head to a nearby shopping mall for a stroll, coffee and interesting conversation about Colombia & Ecuador politics. Tonight our friends from the Colombian Classic Car Club give us a presentation at our hotel.ÿ They present all the guys with hats, badges and stickers for the cars and we girls are given a gold pendant or pin which is a replica from the gold museum that we visited this morning.ÿ I received a gold frog pendant which is lovely. It is extremely generous of them and they have made our stay in Bogota extra special.ÿ Afterwards we all go out for dinner and have a great night.ÿ Thanks to Robert, Sergio, Angela & Jose for a memorable time in Colombia.
