Today we have a 522 kilometer drive to Bogota which is expected to take us over 10 hours, so we leave the hotel at 6:00 am. It’s drizzling with rain and still dark as we drive out of San Agustin into the countryside and around the hills. After about 5 hours driving on the way out of a town Casper has a problem with smoke coming out of its passenger side rear wheel. Everyone stops and it becomes apparent that Casper wasn’t going to be driving any further and needs to go to a workshop to have the bearings replaced. The police turn up and organize a flat tow for the car to be taken to Bogata. Rip and Blue B wait with Casper and the rest of us push on to Bogata. We drive on good sealed roads to Malgar where we meet Robert from the Classic Car Club of Colombia in his Flame Red MGBGT. It’s a slow drive with tolls, drizzling rain and traffic to contend with. We also meet up with RIP & Blue B and even Casper catches us on the back of the tow truck. After a cuppa we head off towards Bogata on a fabulous divided road that winds it’s way up to 2748 meters above sea level.Michael notices that Blue B is blowing smoke from the front passenger side of the motor, so we stop on the side of the road to investigate.Casper catches us once again and drives past on the back of the tow truck. The smoke isn’t a problem and Blue B is running OK, so it’s back on the road. Before long it gets dark, which makes keeping all 8 cars together a difficult task once we get into the city with traffic lights and lots of cars. It takes precision driving by our drivers to stick to the bumper of the car in front so we don’t become separated, the roulette’s have got nothing on our guys! We make it all together without getting lost or running into each other in this huge city of 7 million people. It’s been a very intense drive for the last hour, rewarded by a beer in the hotel restaurant after an 11 hour day.
