24th January 2015 – Punta Arenas to Ushuaia

Another early start today as we had to be at the ferry by 8 am for our trip across the Magellan Straights, which took about 2.5 hours. We crossed the border into Argentina and drove across the open plains.  It was extremely windy, and was pushing the car all over the road, which made for a difficult and not very pleasant drive.  We passed quite a few oil fields on the way as the main highway south – Route 3, dropped down to the Southern Atlantic ocean.  The drive into Ushuaia was on lovely windy hilly roads with beautiful mountains once again. The mayor of Ushuaia through someone who spoke English had arranged for us to park our cars in the middle of town when we arrived.  Unfortunately they were all very dirty and dusty, but still managed to create quite a fuss and drew a large crowd.
