22nd April 2015 – Rangely to Salt Lake City

The alternator that was ordered in for Blue B wouldn’t fit so it’s back to plan A. The guys manufacture a new bracket and with the use of spacers the pulleys now line up and Blue B is good to go. Today we are driving to Salt Lake City on a scenic route which takes us back into Utah through Vernal, over some mountains, up into Wyoming through Mountain View and then back down into Utah. Where we are staying in Rangely is a big gas area so there are pipes sticking out of the ground all over. We drive through dinosaur, which has dinosaur statues in the town as there is a Dinosaur National monument not far from here. In the town of Vernal there are more dinosaurs and the streets have dinosaur name. Dinosaurs used to roam in this area million dog years ago and there have been dinosaur foot prints found. The drive into Manila where we stop for morning tea is very beautiful as we look down over Flaming Gorge Reservoir and Green River that runs down into Powell Lake where we were a few days ago. The drive into Salt Lake City is along a motorway and we stop at a visitor information centre where there are lots of ground squirrels running around, funny little things with the face of a squirrel.Salt Lake City has very wide roads and is laid out in a grid pattern so it’s easy to find our way to our hotel. The city is in a lovely setting it has the Rocky Mountains on one side and Oquirrh Mountain on the other which still have snow on them.Tonight we go to Squatters Brewery for a meal and the boys try the local ale.
