15th February 2015 – Salta

Today is a rest day in beautiful Salta. Michael spent the morning cleaning the car and doing a few maintenance items while Kay and a couple of the other girls went to the local Artisan market to buy a few souvenirs. This afternoon we wandered into the main Piazza to sit in a cafe and soak up the atmosphere of Salta.  We visited the Museum of the high altitude – MAAM Salta.  This museum houses the mummies that were found at the peak of Mt Llullailaco in 1999 of the the 3 children that were sacrificed by the Incas.  The bodies, clothing and grave items have been extremely well preserved in the high altitude grave site. After the museum we wandered through the huge pink cathedral that is very ornate with a gold altar.Tonight we wandered back into the plaza for dinner in an outside cafe, overlooking the cathedral which looked magnificent all lit up. We particularly liked the reflection of the old cathedral spire in the glass of the modern building next to it.We have really enjoyed relaxing and soaking up the ambiance of Salta these past 2 days.
