5th April – Visit to the MG Discovery Centre

We all climbed aboard the bus for another trip into Bangkok. Most of the group were off to visit the MG Discovery Centre run by SAIC as part of their marketing and promotions exercise in Thailand.  2 of the group had to continue on to the Uzbekistan consulate to acquire our visas.

We were warmly greeted by the staff of the Discovery Centre and Mr Zue Chen the Marketing Director of MG in Thailand whose motto is – “We will put MG in your heart”. After a short introduction to the centre which comprises a short circuit where it was possible to test all of the features of each MG model. We split up into group of 3 and jump into various models.  We were then driven around the test track by the team of instructors to show us what each area was demonstrating.

Now it was our turn as we jumped from car to car and had a great fang around the track in an MG3, an MG5, an MG6 and an MG GS SUV. It was great fun with all the boys and girls grinning from ear to ear after a few tyre squealing laps of the track.

The final activity was a timed lap of the track for each of us in the MG3. Needless to say the racing drivers all tried too hard and did dreadful laps and Ian Edwards sedately beat everybody with Pat Mottram not far behind as the fastest lady.

We were then all presented with a gift and an MG shirt and treated to a delicious lunch.

A terrific time was had by all and we were treated like royalty by the MG team.

Just as we were finishing the time trial the boys that had gone to the Uzbekistan consulate arrived back with the visas in hand. So a successful day all round.

We jumped onto the bus for the 1 hour trip back to the hotel and a chance to do some final preparations and repacking on the cars.
