Savonlinna to Helsinki – 6 July 2018

Today we rise early as we have a 330 kilometre drive into Helsinki and we need to be boarding our ferry in the afternoon.  We say farewell to a very sleepy Ros & John and leave them to go back to bed while we drive to Helsinki.

We make good time and arrive mid morning after a coffee and fuel stop on the way.  We head into a market square that has a fabulous indoor food market with all sorts of delicious soups & cakes, including reindeer rolls!

We walk up the hill behind the square through a magnificent park.

The park leads us to to the embassy part of town that has mansions behind high fences with video surveillance.

We continue down the hill towards the sea and have lunch in a restaurant overlooking the Baltic Sea.

After lunch we walk along the edge of the water back into town, where we see a military band parading through the streets.

We arrive at our ferry in plenty of time to board.  The ferry will take us about 29 hours to get to Travemunde in Germany.  So it’s time to check into our cabin and explore the boat before we depart and then have dinner.
